The Dutch design team, House of Thol, have come up with a new product called “Patella Crescenda“. They wanted to create a sprouting kit that would let you easily grow healthy mircrogreens in your home year round and without any soil.
They explain: “The Patella Crescenda consists of a terracotta dish and base, a glass reservoir, and stainless steel growth disks. Due to the set-up of the reservoir, the water naturally remains at an even level throughout the growth cycle. Seeds of all varieties can be sown directly onto the stainless steel disks. Once the seedlings have grown, the microgreens can plucked from the disks by hand. Because there is no soil involved, the whole seedling can be eaten, roots included, meaning nothing goes to waste.”
What I love most is how small and compact it is. This could easily fit on your table or counter. I had an Aero Garden back in the day, and while I loved the concept, it was a little cumbersome because it had to be plugged in and also there was a lot of plastic. (Granted, the Aero Garden was intended to be able to grow larger plants and vegetables, as opposed to the Patella Crescenda is for microgreens. But, I think it’s genius how House of Thol have used such a simple design and from sustainable materials.
If you’re interested in more info, they have set up a kickstarter, and by the time of this post being released, they’ve already surpassed their initial goal! You can still pre-order one which will come out next year. I’m super excited to see this project come to fruition! What do you think?
