I’m super excited about the upcoming Desert X 2019, which debuts next month. For those unfamiliar, Desert X is a curated exhibition of site-specific art installations. The first one took place in the Spring of 2017 (I blogged about it here) The installations are spread out throughout the Coachella Valley, and it was so fun trying to drive around and find them. This year they are expanding the locations to include the Salton Sea, which I just visited again over the holiday break. More on that coming soon.

Anyway, they haven’t released who the participating artists are yet, but keep tabs on their Instagram and Facebook as it will surely be something you won’t want to miss! Desert X 2019 will be held from February 9- April 21, 2019. Go to their site for more info.

Deodorant isn’t usually an area that you think of for good design, but that’s not to say it shouldn’t deserve some attention! Myro is looking to change that with their line of plant powered natural deodorants. The name is derived from the greek word “essence” and their formula is a custom blend of 100% natural fragrance and essential oils. They come in a refillable case and you can subscribe to get the inserts delivered every 3 months. I love the concept and design! Have any of you tried Myro? Would love to hear your thoughts!

The Open Hand : Yoshihiro Makino

The Open Hand by Yoshihiro Makino via happymundane blog

If you’re a design fan, you probably have heard the name Le Corbusier. I knew he was a Swiss/French architect and designer, famous for being a part of the “International style” of architecture. What I didn’t know was that he also designed is the Capitol Complex, located at Chandigarh, India. It’s a government compound made up of three structures, and has become an iconic example modern architecture.

Photographer Yoshihiro Makino has just released a photographic essay of Chandigarh, entitled “The Open Hand”, which is named after the monument Le Corbusier made, which symbolizes “the unity of manking… open to give and open to receive”.

I’ve had the good fortune of working with Yoshi, and his talented eye is on full display in this essay. Instead of just documenting the buildings, he has gone in and captured stunning moments, showcasing the colors and textures that is the epitome of #mundaneaesthetic!

And then taking things next level, the piece is made up of two accordion folded books, all designed by one of my ultimate design idols, Tamotsu Yagi. This is a must for any design/photography/architecture/color lover!

The Open Hand is published by August Editions.

While we’re technically not even in Spring 2019 yet, the fashion world is pushing forward and the Men’s Fall 2019 shows are currently underway. There was a lot of buzz for this season’s Louis Vuitton show, now headed by designer Virgil Abloh, which was his sophomore effort. I have to say I am currently obsessed with all the bags he showed.
