The weather forecast calls for the next few days to be super rainy here in So Cal. That being said, it’s currently sunny and the ground is dry (…figures, LOL). However, if it does in fact turn into a major wet fest here, I’m going to hold on to these happy and bright images of this home featured in the March 2014 issue of Inside Out Magazine.
When I first saw this editorial, with it’s gorgeous mid century lines and open indoor/outdoor living concept, I seriously thought it was a home here in California! It’s actually in the North Avalon area of Sydney, Australia- which I guess is another sign that I need to get me to Australia… STAT!
This rental home is currently resided by designer and architect Marika Järv and her two daughters. There’s such a relaxed mix of modern and vintage throughout all the rooms – but the main draw – all those big windows and light!!
One thing I particularly was attracted to were all the houseplants inside. The stylist on this shoot was Claire Delmar, and she mentions in the article that “In the living area, I focused on plants, which created a more retro beach feel, similar to a garden oasis…”
A great example of this “oasis” feeling is in the kitchen. I always notice how interior designers treat that weird alcove space that is above many kitchen cabinets when I visit model homes. You’ll often see something like wicker baskets with ivy or something like that.
In this space, they used various white ceramic pots and a variety of simple green plants. Keeping all the pots white and the plants the same color visually unifies them, but the different shapes add fun texture. The pots also blend in with cabinet color, allowing the plants be the focus and add some extra warmth and lushness to the space.
All the houseplants in the home really “bring the outside in” (…and now that reminds me that I better go water my own houseplants!)
Aside from that, I could go on and on about the gorgeous pops of color and that amazing outdoor seating/eating bench area, but I think I’ll just let the images speak for themselves as I daydream taking a nap on that wondeful couch…
Check out the entire story and more in the Inside Out March 2014 issue. Also, if you’re currently looking at kitchen inspiration ideas, this issue has a whole section devoted to ideas! Inside Out is on newsstands now as well as on Zinio.
