If you haven’t figured out by now, I <3 the 80s. In particular, the Postmodern movement had a HUGE impact on my aesthetic. At the cornerstone of it was designer Ettore Sottsass and his work with the Memphis group.
(side note: I actually had the incredible opportunity to meet him at his Milan studio when I was a student in college! Although through a sad sad sad series of miscommunications between the person who was organizing the meet up and his people, my time was cut very short with him. grrrr…. but he was still incredibly generous!)
Anyway, there’s been a big resurgence of Post Modern motifs happening in design as of late and I for one couldn’t be more thrilled. Taking this cue, the awesome store Darkroom created their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection that is all “So Sottsass”. It coincided with the recent London Design Festival. They collaborated with a selection of new and recognized artists and transformed the store into an installation of pieces that are pure graphic amazingness for men, women, and home.
…Needless to say I’m OBSESSED. Check out the collection here.
