I can’t believe it’s already OCTOBER?! Here’s a few amazing things for your weekend! Hope you have a good one!
• 1) Today marks the opening of highly anticipated exhibition called “CALIFORNIA DESIGN, 1930–1965: “LIVING IN A MODERN WAY” at LACMA. “California Design” is part of the larger “Pacific Standard Time” collaboration that involves over 60 So Cal cultural institutions all celebrating the birth of the LA art movement from 1945-1980.
•2) …As part of the exhibition, the famous Eames living room has been completely relocated and reassembled, with all the pieces painstakingly transferred from their original home to the exhibition. Check out this video that shows a time-lapse of the process (via LA times) Also, tomorrow, Sunday, October 2, 2011, if you are in town, the LACMA galleries will be free! (Except the Tim Burton exhibit). More info on Free Sunday at LACMA here.
•3) If you can’t make it down, you could always get the book, which documents the amazing pieces featured in the exhibition. Available here.
•4) And finally, I dig these hybrid-mashed-up “bow bin” baskets by Cordula Kehrer, produced by Areaware. They’re a little “Frankenstein”-like, but I think that’s what makes them so awesome. More about these pieces here and here. Also available here.
